Burlington Zephyr 9900

American Hi-Rail's Burlington Pioneer Zephyr 9900, which was the first diesel locomotive in passenger service in the U.S. (1934 -- the Zephyr had three units originally, and four starting in 1935). This loco marked the beginning of the end for steam trains. It also averaged over 77 mph on most runs and cruised smoothly at 100 mph.
